One of the strangest and most fascinating recordings I've heard.

This excellent reissue from Analogue Productions gives us everything good (and not-so-good) about the 'Blue Note Sound.' The SACD is very convincing, in that it's recreating the original master tape. One word review: Brilliant.
Detailed review: Brilliant! Tarik O'Regan was comletely unknown to me before I purchased this disc, but with this one recording has quickly become my second-favorite living composer. He composed the titular composition in 2006 (at age 28!) so I'm sure his name is still ... more |

The main attraction here is the Adams, but the other works certainly warrant a few words.
Barber's Adagio is easily his best-known work, and receives a very good performance here. I would have preferred that the violins in the climax actually play with less energy - it comes across as forceful ... more |
