For my own interests this site has always been about the music first, the carrier second. SACD has allowed me to experience the music in ways I never could before. Blu-ray is another opportunity. Perhaps someday they'll figure out how to paste a standard CD layer on, just as with SACD-- I doubt it, though. I'm just glad that I've been able to put together a wonderful library of physical discs, both RBCD and SACD, with great music; and high quality equipment to play it which sounds better than I ever thought I'd be able to afford. Now if I could just get my ears rejuvenated...

I may never buy a Blu-ray disc, and I'm just not excited about downloads. But I think high rez is high rez, and we will all gain by the exposure.

Thanks for the forum, Zeus.

Nice post...mirrors almost exactly my point of view as well...it's about the joy of high quality music.

I'd just like to add it isn't easy obtaining the rock/pop SACDs in NZ unless I want to pay obscene shipping prices and put up with 2 months+ delivery time frames. Blu Ray Pure Audio discs, on the other hand are being arbitrarily stocked at places like JB HiFi for a couple of dollars cheaper then elsewhere and a LOT cheaper than your average SACD.

This gives me an easy opportunity to sample (potentially) awesome sound quality music.

With Zeus's decision this site then will give me what I've come to realise and appreciate (during my short time here to date) are reliable comparisons between formats in order to assist me with buying decisions.

I've already "blindly" purchased a few BD-A titles and can therefore now contribute to this site via reviews etc of those, thereby giving a bit back to the generally excellent community.

Whilst I also prefer owning the physical media, I'd also be interested in learning more about the HD downloads available (and growing).

Cheers

Good morning Zeus
I've found that thankfully most BD-V music discs seem to be region 0 (I buy them on-line from England), it's more the movies that are region coded.
N

Just to clarify your post, BD-V are region A, B or C.

More likely those titles you refer to are encoded for all three regions.

DVD are encoded region 1-6 only.

I don't profess to have extensive knowledge here, but some titles I looked at (just/mainly Universal?) were marked as region coded.

The label will tell you if a bluray is specific to a region. When I buy anything from the UK, I make sure it says "region-free." The UK is Region B and as I found out with Downton Abbey Season 3, it was locked. Season 1 and 2 were not.

Still a lot of BD-A titles to be added from both Sono Luminus and 2L. Should we add them ourselves Stephen or leave it to you and Polly? Cheers, paul

If you submit the details it will definitely make Polly's life easier! You'll also see your titles listed here first.

As you're probably aware, BD-V region coding is down to rights to publish in specific areas (EU, North America, Asia/Pacific).

As such, the larger multi-national companies such as Paramount, Fox, Warner Brothers, Sony etc. will be more inclined to issue multi-region titles. Smaller companies such as Studio Canal which will only have rights to publish in specific areas, will be the ones more likely to release region locked titles.

Can a Blu-ray audio disc player plays a redbook CD? Any plans for BIS, Channel, Chandos etc to release titles in Blu-ray audio format?

I would say yes. I think all BR players are universal players, playing at least CDs DVDs and BRs. Some (most?) also SACDs.
