Fascinating. I rarely get to watch VPRO’s Vrije Geluiden on Sunday morning but home alone today I did and what a great surprise: Melchior Huurdeman interviews Jared Sacks about his work because Channel Records exists 25 years. They talk enthusiastically about SACD and DSD – the first time ever I hear this on TV. Also featured (but not interviewed): Ivan Fischer and Hein Dekker.

Translated:

Jared Sacks played horn in the early eighties en made recordings for a hobby. In 1990 he founded Channel Records and packed his horn for good. Now, 25 years later, Channel Records has become one of the most notable record labels for classical music. Sacks brings along a number of musicians from his label.

Jörgen van Rijen plays a solo trombone piece from the German composer and metal guitarist Florian Magnus Maier. Violinist Rachel Podger plays music from Austrian baroque composer Von Biber. Cellist Nicolas Altstaedt plays a solo piece and together with violinist Rosanne Philippens a piece from Maurice Ravel. Lastly a preview from a yet to be released recording of songs by Robert Schumann, performed by baritone Thomas Oliemans and pianist Paolo Giacometti,

More about this episode here (in Dutch):

There’s ‘teaser’ video here:

The program is not available for catch-up yet but that should happen shortly. It’ll probably appear here:

http://www.vpro.nl/vrije-geluiden/gemist.html

I’ll post a proper link once it shows up.

Note the entire program is in Dutch, except the conversation with Rachel Podger.

PS: Ivan Fischer appeared in this program in 2011 (also interviewed in Dutch). See /showthread/78906/79190 . The link to the episode there no longer works, it appears. If I find it back I’ll post it there or here. As I write this and am looking for a newer link, I do stumble upon an apparent newer episode with him from September 2015: http://www.vpro.nl/vrije-geluiden/media.POMS_VPRO_2124325.html
I’m gladly going to watch that now : )

ETA: never mind that last link -- it's a red herring, or a preview if you will.
