I thought they killed the format last year?
No wonder Sony's projected loss is currently at $6.4 billion.

I have several Kansas city chorale recordings which have the Sound/mirror logo on them. These are surely DSD recordings? I.e. CHSA 5055, 5044, 5045, 5031, 5066. Can Couzens come up with a corrected list? There may be others.

Blu ray IS still being produced.
Ive seen them in the Bricks and Hardware stores
Plenty of them.

Now , as regards sacds being there. Hmmmmmm

meanwhile ,looking at the blu ray capabilities rather that previous DVD based restrictions on digital flow.? 9.6Mbps limit.
Hence the need for MLP on DVDA to get 24/96 to the rear channels and the obvious magic wand for DSD to get there with its even wider frequency band?

It seems
LPCM
Max. Bitrate 27.648 Mbit/s
Bits/sample 16, 20, 24
8 channels (48 kHz, or 96 kHz), 6 (192 kHz)

This probably explains why 88.2 recordings (here I am guessing Naxos) upscales
to 96hz and it IS NOT AN IMPROVEMENT.

So if Chandos decide to go Bluray in future ,That is If and When the last sacd plant in Europe shuts down then they are handily placed for bluray releases and Im guessing the surrounds will be genuine 24/96.With NO DSD NOISE.

ps as regards sony losses,

Hope those Turkish pilots were not using it?.

Have you seen any blu-ray audio titles?
To my knowledge Sony hasn't released even 1 blu-ray audio disc to date.
And I wouldn't expect the situation to change in the future, considering Sony's financial situation.
Introducing a new physical format that's not compatible with CD players could get SONY into even more trouble...

This seems like an opportune time to completely break from tabulating recording methods (actually just original bit format) and refocus the site on reviews instead. The aim here has always been to base sonic evaluations on actual listening. If a label wants to submit this information (as part of the Description field) I'll record this (along with any other distinctions, awards etc) and will make this data visible when I get enough submissions with such information. Reviewers are also free to note this information, as they see fit.

No these are a figment of my imagination, just like PCM being converted to analogue.

The Salzburg item being released in July is interesting...
Now I suggest you read back posts.

These are not blu-ray audio titles. No blu-ray players convert PCM to analogue.

It certainly is. Makes me want to consider adding BR capability to my system.

It was to be released on RBCD end of last year, but got canceled without explanation. Frustrating beyond words, as his (Boulez') earlier recordings of these same works, especially the "Lied," are still the finest there are (save for the Lulu-Suite, which Abbado, Juliane Banse, and VPO do like no one else), but come in poor sound. And good as Boulez was back in the day, in the last few years he's overdone even his more youthful self (same applies to Abbado, and even more strikingly so).

Wish someone could still somehow pick this up and put it out in other formats as well. Apparently, at least nothing got then irreversibly fcuked up during the recording or editing/production process, since it can stand the light of the day.

Meanwhile, I've gotten very curious to get my hands on this Deneve Debussy recording...

Way off topic but if you love the Beatles the blu~ray of Yellow Submarine is absolutely one of the most spectacular BDs ever produced and the 5.1 DTS Lossless Soundtrack done by Simon Gibson (yes, THAT Simon Gibson) and Peter Mew is astonishing in its discreteness.....and a comparison with the USB chip's 96/44.1 remastering via my Meridian Sooloos sounded FLAT next to the BD. The picture has been photochemically restored frame by frame 4k x 2k and is simply one of the best looking restorations I have ever witnessed.

Is BD dead.........like SACD.....it just won't die.....and keeps getting better.......and like Old Man River just keeps on rolling along.

Keep ALL 5" Optical disc formats alive by voting with your pocketbooks.....preferably Louis Vuitton!
