It's interesting that Wilczek thinks it will be fun when robot's intelligence surpasses that of humans.
Yep, it's no fun when someone/thing outsmarts you by such a degree that you're not even capable of grasping the aims of the darn thing...

Wouldn't that be something!?
But... Before we get ahead of ourselves... http://mashable.com/2015/10/18/alien-megastructure-kepler/#JBtYEcJTnuqD
To be fair, the original articles were only hinting at a remote possibility that this strange signal could represent some alien activity, so it was nothing firm from the start ;) But nevertheless we should definitely keep looking up, because, to quote a classic, the truth is out there... :)
Thanks for the pdf on NASA's Mars missions, they really keep on giving...

I thought it was a pretty cool theory, too. A massive alien space station. WOW! Fantastic! :) I wonder if the upcoming Star Wars film has sparked people's imaginations.
Anyway, as space is full of amino acids and other organic material, it's only a matter "when".
The Earth is floating in the "sea" of space...not some empty vacuum.
Perhaps life on Earth has been regularly invaded by "alien" microbes the whole time, so... perhaps "already" is the appropriate word.
Here's another fun video on the scale of everything...http://www.businessinsider.com/animated-scale-universe-atom-human-earth-galaxy-2015-9

I'm afraid everything rational points to us being ALONE and such conjecture as this is pure speculative and extrapolative nonsense. We are the FIRST make no mistake about that. If there are others they are behind us.
The universe is 13.4 billion years old, so if there are other civilizations out there they may be far older civilizations than our own (developed on a planet that's just 4.5 bn years old). There's absolutely no rational basis to your assumption that we are the FIRST.
>Wouldn't it seem highly improbable on the simple basis that if such a civilisation were in existence and advanced to the stage of building multiple large complex objects in space they'd have discovered our radio signals long before now.
The problem is our radio signals are a very recent human development, so they haven't reached long distances yet. http://www.planetary.org/blogs/emily-lakdawalla/2012/3390.html
