My initial reaction was a big question mark. Why play these pieces in their arrangements for piano and string quintet. A rather pointless excercise, I thought.

If you have heard Debussy´s La Mer played by the great orchestras of the world, why would anyone want to hear it played by the Singapore Symphony? Have you heard another recording of the Tchaikovsky 3? The Järvi is one of the least imaginative I have heard and it doesn´t deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Markevich, Dorati or Temirkanov, to mention only a few. ... more |
