I bought this SACD by accident... I had a gift certificate that was burning a hole in my pocket. I already owned the suites performed by the Academy of Ancient Music with Christopher Hogwood, but I had never really gotten into them. The opening two tracks on this CD will blow you away. The orchestra is full of life and the music really moves. The brass are strong and present and really pull their own weight. The orchestra's sound balance is not what I would expect for Tchaik 6 and russian music -- the brass are very pointed and distant sounding. I personally feel the brass should be huge and heavy, especially tuba and trombones. The tempos are nice though. it doesn't drag.
